Our Health & Safety Policy

Obligations

Under the new Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, Spencer Painters and Decorators Ltd as a “Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking” (PCBU) has a Primary Duty of Care for the health and safety of our workers and any other workers we influence or direct. The business or undertaking is also responsible for the health and safety of other people at risk from our work including customers, visitors, or the public.


Spencer Painters & Decorators as far as is reasonably practicable, will: 

  • Provide and maintain a work environment that is without risks to health and safety
  • Provide and maintain safe systems of work
  • Ensure the safe use, handling and storage of plant, structures and substances
  • Provide adequate facilities for the welfare of workers when doing work for our business, including ensuring access to those facilities
  • Provide any information, training, instruction, or supervision that is necessary to protect all persons from risks to their health and safety arising from the work of our business
  • Monitor the health of workers and the conditions at the workplace for the purpose of preventing injury or illness of workers when doing work for our business
  • Provide workplace monitoring to measure hazards (e.g. a substance, fumes, noise or vibrations arising from the work).
  • Engage with workers in work place health and safety matters and encourage workers to participate effectively in improving health and safety in the business.
  • Effectively manage risks to health and safety arise from people being exposed to hazards.
  • Consult, co-operate and co-ordinate activities with all other PCBUs to prevent any gaps in managing health and safety risks and help PCBUs reach a common understanding and establish clear roles, responsibilities and actions.
  • Ensure the regulator (WORKSAFE NZ) is told when notifiable events occur arising from the conduct of the business or undertaking.
  • Exercise due diligence to make sure that Spencers comply with its health and safety duties.
  • Ensure Workers take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others, and comply with reasonable instructions and cooperate with our policies and procedures.
  • Ensure workers can carry out health and safety-related activities or functions without worrying that there may be negative consequences.
  • Ensure other persons at workplaces include workplace visitors and casual volunteers at workplaces, have their own health and safety duty to keep themselves safe and not cause others harm.

Application of This Policy

Health and Safety is the responsibility of everyone, therefore, we seek the cooperation of workers, customers, visitors, and the public, to engage and participate in realising our health and safety objectives to create a safe working environment.
